Well, the answer can vary wildly. It largely depends on what your project is and how you plan to go about filming it.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that videographer costs are always high. But in reality, nowadays it’s entirely possible to create a professional and slick looking video with a limited budget. There are quite a few ways to do this within the industry; here are some of our top tips.
Before you go into shooting, know exactly what you’re going to do and what your expenses will be. Starting without a plan can be costly if you don’t consider all the factors that could affect your budget.
Creating this budget plan includes thinking about what equipment you’re going to use and how much time you’re going to spend filming each day or at each location. This helps you keep track of my money while you’re shooting too, making sure that everything is done on time and within budget limits.
If you’re hesitant to invest in a camera, don’t worry. Smartphone cameras are getting better and better all the time, so as long as you own a phone it’s not necessary for you to go into debt to get started. With the right apps and accessories, you can get some excellent footage.

It’s tempting to go all out when it comes to purchasing video equipment; after all, surely the more you spend on a camera the better it is right? In fact, you can get excellent results without spending a fortune. The best camera for your needs is the one that has the best features at an affordable price —not the most expensive one with all bells and whistles thrown in. If you’re filming an event in your backyard, there’s no need to buy a £15K camera when a £1K one will do just fine.
You can also consider renting and borrowing. If you know someone who already owns some gear or a smartphone that works well for videography purposes, then ask if you can use them! You can also look into renting the equipment you need, although prices for this can vary greatly so make sure you do your research thoroughly and compare all the options. And make sure you’ve always got adequate insurance cover!
Doing this will not only save you money, but also precious time. Look into whether the location you’re planning on filming at requires a permit. For example, if it’s in a public space (e.g. a park or beach), then there’s no need to get a permit unless it’s for something other than filming like advertising or photography. However, some streets or privately owned spaces might be a different story ad you’ll need permission.
Be aware of possible fees associated with getting a filming permit: some have additional restrictions or requirements, such as insurance. Finding out this information before you film will allow you to budget accordingly.
Hiring local talent is one of the best ways to keep your budget in check. Not only does it help you save money, but it also supports your community and keeps money in your area.
If you have a crew or freelancers that are willing to travel, then this might not be an option for you too. but if not then it’s worth taking a look at!
